Some of you may know that I haven’t been quite as consistent with my blogging schedule. Graduate school took up a lot more time than expected, especially during the final month or so of this semester. A bit of that has also been due to my attempts to try out some new things.
Spare time comes with a treasure– trove of new ideas. Today was my last day of exams, so now I have a plethora of free time. I’ve been thinking of what that will entail for me. With this year coming to an end, I’m sure many of us are ready to make some changes. I have a few that things that I want to try and work on. I’m one of those people that feels more motivated to do something once I’ve written it down. The basic changes like health are a given when it comes to the New Year. Since creativity is the main theme of my blog, I’ll focus on some of the new things that I’ll be doing that incorporate creativity.
One of the things that I want to try to do are writing challenges. I tried my hand at this a little bit in October when I tried to make short stories and poems. I saw that there are aspects of writing that I’m not all that strong in. I feel like these challenges will help me strengthen my writing which will turn help me get better with my novel. I’m still not sure what type of challenges I will do, but I know I want a variety.
With challenges in mind, I also want to do hourly challenge. To explain, I want to work on writing and drawing for an hour each day, at the least. Building on my craft is something that I want to focus on. As they say, “practice makes perfect”. Consistency is key in the betterment of skills.
Another thing that I was to try my hand at is writing critiques and reviews on different shows. There are so many ideas raddling about in my head when it comes to this topic. One method that I want to do this is through using communication theories. Analyzing media texts, which in this case would likely be various cartoons/ anime, is something very interesting to me. I started doing this recently because of grad school. Taking this new perspective on the shows that I like is something that sounds very fun to me. The other way to review, is similar to an English review on books. This is a more typical method that people use in reviews. Some of this would also delve into character reviews, which is something I really like to do. I feel like these types of practices will also aide in writing my novel.
There’s a lot of things I want to try. I’m not sure if they’ll all go on my blog, but I’m still very excited to try. Hopefully these can inspire people to try something new too!
